Mr. G’s Party Center, Inc. was founded in 1976 by a family of two brothers and their father as the Gillis Brothers, a traveling vendor who sold misc. novelty items and helium balloons at carnivals and c.b. jamborees. Eventually, George, the youngest of the brothers, bought out his brother’s share of the company and opened a toy store at 88 Massachusetts Ave. in Lunenburg, Massachusetts. The toy business didn’t do as well as they had hoped, and in 1977 they began carrying papergoods. In 1978, having completely shifted into a party goods business, it was also time for a name change. Thus, The Party Center was born. When the business incorporated in 1980, George discovered that the name “The Party Center” had already been taken by a company in NH. Another name change was in order, this time one that would stick with the business, in various forms. Mr. G’s Party Center, Inc. was born.

In 1985 Mr. G’s outgrew their tiny store on Mass Ave. and needed something with more traffic and more space. George and his wife Kay decided to move the business to its present location at the Twin City Mall in Leominster in 1985.

Since that time the business has undergone one expansion, taking over a vacant area next door and knocking down the dividing wall, and opened a second store to house their Halloween, Christmas, and now darts also.

Mr. G’s Haunted Halloween, a division of Mr. G’s Party Center, Inc., began in 1996 as a temporary store just open during the 90 day Halloween season under the supervision of George’s daughter Katrina. It moved from location to location within the mall until 1998, when the family found a more permanent location on Route 12 Leominster, where it is standing today. The Halloween business is now open year round, and the Gillis’ have added Christmas and darts to the mix, making for a rather unique shopping experience.
